On a recent trip to the port city of Iquique, Chile, Dr. Silvia Rotemberg and the American Plastic Surgery team brought hope and happiness to these 11 breast cancer survivors. Cancer had not defeated these women, but it had left them struggling with insecurity and self-consciousness. After undergoing a mastectomy, the surgical removal of breasts, it is common for a woman to have trouble coping with self-doubt and a sense of diminished sexuality. However, there is a silver lining of hope and for these Chilean women, that came in the form of Dr. Silvia Rotemberg and reconstructive breast surgery.
