Conveniently located to serve the areas of Miami and South Florida

Renuva is a cosmetic injectable alternative to fat transfer that replenishes lost tissue volume, improves skin tone, and smooths texture. Its ingredients help your body produce its own fat in the area of treatment. As it’s only been available for the past few years, it may not be as familiar to you as some other anti-aging treatments. But, it’s rapidly becoming a popular choice for people with age-related volume loss who don’t want a facial fat transfer procedure. This allows our patients to rejuvenate their skin in a short, in-office procedure that is both effective and convenient.Contact South Miami’s premier plastic surgeon Dr. Silvia Rotemberg to rediscover your youthful looks and regain your confidence with Renuva. Fat and the Aging Process

Adipose tissue is fat. It is located all over the body, both in the “right” places and the “wrong” places. As we get older, our faces and bodies change. This includes where and how our fat is distributed. In the face, adipose tissue can be found in several different facial fat pads, which can become affected by age and weight change. This is due, in part, to changes in facial bone structure and weakened ligaments. (1) Common areas that gain more fat are the jowls, mouth, and jaw. However, we can also experience fat loss in the cheeks and temples, which can make us look gaunt and tired.

The versatility of Renuva allows it to be used throughout the body. It can:

  • Restore fullness in the cheeks
  • Add volume to the temples
  • Augment the lips
  • Rejuvenate the hands
  • Reshape the buttocks
  • Eliminate hip dips
  • Improve the appearance of cellulite
  • Correct irregularities from prior surgeries

How Well Have You Healed from Your Liposuction?

Renuva treatment does not involve liposuction. However, it can correct small soft tissue irregularities that can occur after a liposuction procedure. Overcorrection, under-correction, and surface irregularities can occur in and around a liposuction treatment area.  This may leave patients feeling dissatisfied with their results and in search of a straightforward, cost-effective treatment to improve them.

What is Renuva?

Although it adds volume, Renuva is not a dermal filler like Restylane or Juvéderm. It was designed as an alternative to autologous fat transfer, where a doctor harvests a patient’s own fat, treats it, then uses it to address tissue volume loss. Instead, Renuva uses donated fat which has had its extracellular matrix carefully preserved.

Allograft Adipose Matrix

Renuva is classified as an allograft adipose matrix (AAM). An allograft is a tissue that is transplanted from one person to another. AAMs were developed as a corresponding alternative to autologous fat transfer (AFT). It is composed of collagen, proteins, and growth factors from purified donor fat. Studies show that Renuva is a safe and effective treatment for age-related tissue volume loss which avoids the additional costs of liposuction for fat transfer. It is proven to improve skin quality and supports adipose tissue remodeling after treatment. (2)

The extracellular matrix is responsible for maintaining skin structure and strength. Renuva’s unique formulation contains:

  • Collagen – Collagen is a protein that helps our skin stay supple, hydrated, and youthful-looking. It also volumizes tissue, keeping your complexion looking refreshed and luminous.
  • Growth Factors – Growth factors work with other molecules to aid skin healing. They play an important role in managing inflammation, replicating cells, and promoting collagen and elastin formation.
  • Additional Proteins – As well as collagen and growth factors, additional proteins in Renuva are broken down by the body into amino acids. They’re key components in skin and keep it looking plump and hydrated.

Renuva stimulates your body’s own production of stem cells, which turn into fat cells in the treatment area. Over time these fat cells gradually replace the injectable in tissues for long-lasting, natural results.

Renuva for Cellulite

Cellulite affects 80-90% of adult women. (3) It causes ripples and depressions in skin which can look unsightly and make us feel self-conscious. A Renuva treatment can add targeted volume and address dimpling from cellulite for a softer, smoother skin texture.

Benefits of Renuva

Renuva is an “off-the-shelf” tissue volumizing treatment for use in the face, hands, and body. Patients can benefit from treatment with Renuva because:

  • It achieves the same effects as fat grafting, without liposuction.
  • It utilizes your body’s own natural processes.
  • It promotes and maintains healthy skin rejuvenation.
  • The procedure does not require anesthesia.
  • It can be used throughout the face and body.
  • The procedure is short and straightforward.
  • There is no downtime required.

Donor fat is FDA-compliant and rigorously screened and tested to federal tissue transplantation standards. (3)

Candidates for Renuva

Most people wishing to correct minor soft tissue irregularities in the face and body are good candidates for Renuva injections. And, for those who do not wish to undergo liposuction, it’s a fitting alternative to autologous fat transfer. It can only be used in areas where fat is already present. Renuva is not suitable for patients who have severe allergies or those who have a history of anaphylaxis.

Some patients may need a series of Renuva treatments spaced out over 6-12 weeks to achieve the most effective results.

Renuva eliminates the need for tissue harvesting and graft processing. It’s also a less complicated procedure that can be performed safely and quickly in-office. (2)

Personal Consultation

A personal consultation with Dr. Rotemberg before your procedure helps her to get to know your aesthetic requirements and meet you in person. We will ask you to fill out some patient intake forms to tell us about your basic medical history. Then, Dr. Rotemberg will conduct a physical examination. You can explain the details of the areas of your body you wish to change. Please feel free to take this opportunity to ask questions about the procedure. After we have gathered all the necessary information, we will schedule your procedure.

Your Renuva Experience

Preparing for a Renuva procedure is a lot like preparing for dermal fillers. Arrive for treatment with a clean face if you are receiving Renuva injections in this area. Dr. Rotemberg will first apply a numbing cream to help make your experience as comfortable as possible. Then, after preparing the treatment, she will inject the Renuva AAM using a thin microtip needle. She will then massage the treatment into the area until she achieves the desired effect. As soon as the procedure is over, you will be free to leave and continue with your day!

After treatment, you may experience redness, swelling, and bruising in the injection areas, however, this will subside in a few days.

Results

Although you’ll see some results immediately, a Renuva treatment works over several months. Most patients see their final results after 2-3 months.

FAQ

How many Renuva treatments will I need to get the best results?

The number of Renuva treatments you’ll need to achieve the results you want will vary. Some patients will require two or more treatments spaced out at suitable intervals to reach their desired aesthetic.
Is Renuva the same as fat transfer?

No. Renuva is an injectable alternative to autologous fat transfer. It uses rigorously screened donor fat to add volume to a treatment area. As a result, treatment with Renuva can be more cost-effective and faster to recover from than autologous fat transfer.
Does Renuva contain hyaluronic acid?
No. Renuva does not contain hyaluronic acid like dermal fillers. It’s made of donor fat-derived collagen, growth factors, and other biocompatible proteins.
Why do some people prefer Renuva to autologous fat grafting?

Renuva is useful for people with very little fat available for grafting, and for those who want to avoid undergoing a liposuction procedure to harvest fat. It’s a convenient treatment as it allows providers to perform procedures in-office in relatively short sessions. What’s more, Renuva has no downtime and minimal side effects.
